New Zealand : Route for 2 weeks

Our route plan
Well, after days of over-whelming work stuffs before holiday plan (of course!) and spent many sleepless nights tried to figure out what is the best, must see and how do we manage our time (and money) to get the best of New Zealand for only in 2 weeks (surely it is not enough). I am finally done with our route. It is not perfect, I know,...but I think this one will cover most of our best interests (and again- considering time and money).
I spent this long weekend just to browse everything, I even got headache for spending too much time in front of my laptop's. But it's all worthed, finally I am able to manage settling down few matters for our vacation while hubby spent his long weekend playing his RPG game on PC *sigh*.

I need to make another 2 flights booked across the country (this is because of the time constraint) and fortunately I found a pretty good deals on those 2 routes, they were Jetstar's. Initially I wanted to book flight from Wellington to Rotorua too for saving us from 8 hours drive by coach, but then found out the cost for one way flight for both of us wouldn't save our money, it would be NZD 258 for both of us to fly Vs NZD 64 with Intercity Bus.  :( The only airline that serve the route is Air New Zealand.

I also booked a rental Car, it was pretty intense process. Due to our my inconsistent plan ( I was in dilemma  whether we should take the Intercity Bus across South Island, or we hire a campervan or we drive), but then on very last day, Hubby took time to get his International Driving License and also encouraged by my BlackBerry Messenger conversation with Pupun who lived in NZ for several months when she was in High School, then I finally confirmed to book our Honda Fit from Backpacker Rent Car for one way rent NZD 315 for 5 days including GPS rental, pick up from Christchurch Airport and drop off at Queenstown Airport.

I booked several budget accommodation during our trip. Mostly  their rate is around NZD 60-80 per night, since this is a high season, probably a lot more expensive than we should pay during regular season. We stay mostly for 1-2 nights each accommodation. Some of our booked hostels are in South Island where we will spent more time than in North :  Noah's Ark in Greymouth, Montrose Lodge in Franz Josef, Matthehorn South in Wanaka,  Astray Motel in Rotorua, Downtown Backpacker in Wellington, BASE in Auckland, and in actually I tried to couchsurf in Queenstown because we spent more time in that city, so we want to get to know people better, but no luck, so I haven't decided yet.

As for activities, although I have a long list of them, I pre-booked Franz Josef glacier half day trip earlier because this trip is very popular. Rate is NZD 123 per pax including wardrobe rent and glacier hot tub.
Another must see activities that we (the movie buffs) would like to do is Hobbit movie on tour and Lord of The Ring movie tour. each cost us for NZD 95 and 99 per person for half day tour. We also eager want to see one of the local Maori (native tribe of NZ) cultural dinner show; Ko Tane. I am also still taking a consideration (especially on money and courage!) for taking a tandem sky dive! There are 3 prominent place to do this : Queenstown and Rotorua, in Taupo , Fox Glacier and Wanaka. The first two run  by NZ ONe will cost us (both of us) NZD 999 (including the sky dive from 9000 feet, pictures and video package) and in Taupo is actually the cheapest one for NZD 856 for 12000 feet jump and combo package of picture and video, Fox Glacier for 9000 feet will cost us NZD 888 for all in package and Wanaka is the most expensive one, for both of us will be for NZD 1208 all in package, although known as the best aerial view (the jump only available for 12000 and 15000 feet). Other activities that we might want to try are : Mud bath spa at Hell's Gate & Wai Ora Spa and Te Puia Geothermal walk in Rotorua.

I am also still pitching our operator for Milford Sound trip. Initially I want to take the same operator as Asanti (my CS friend) took; Jucy Cruiser, but since we will drive by ourselves to get there, probably better if I look for something cheaper. I also want to visit Shantytown a Gold-mining heritage park and Punakaiki - Pancake Rocks  nearby Greymouth if possible in time.

Of course we have some agenda for the inner cities, like ; Antartic Center in Christchurch, Paradise Valley Springs in Rotorua, Te Papa museum in Wellington and also Sky Tower in Auckland.

While preparing for this trip, something happened today, my hubby credit card was being hijacked by someone else, he/she bought something online, using Baht currency and manage to spend my hubby's credit limit!. It was a coincidence that I told Rangga to check his credit card balance earlier today, because I can't seem to get thru on of our transaction today, apparently it was over limit! Hubby insisted that he paid all of the transaction earlier this month but then later found out that he got his card jacked by someone else!. Tried to settled down the matter with the bank of card issuer and hopefully everything will be fine.

Also, Christchurch got hit by another earthquake last Friday, kinda worry me, hope everything just fine.
Wish us luck

  8. Wah seru banget perjalanannya Kak... :)
Oh iya, mau tanya donk... Kalau nyetir sendiri di NZ terutama di Greymouth Franz Josef gitu gampang gak sih? Bahaya gak?
